Beaune market, August 2011 – Gitte

Gitte on her way from the 3rd visit to the Beaune market!

Visiting Hôtel-Dieu de Beaune (constructed during the years 1443-1451), the jewel of Burgundian tourism, is a must for everyone. This prestigious monument is a part of a hospital complex comprising:

•Hôtel-Dieu, some of the buildings of which still house mobile elderly people and a religious community

•Hospice de la Charité founded in 1645, re-equipped and expanded on the creation of an old-age home

•The new hospital, centre hospitalier, for patients requiring intensive care (1971)

•Centre Nicolas Rolin, the long- and medium-care centre opened in 1984
