Ladoix faces a problem similar to Monthélie, much of the village wine is relatively ungenerous and rarely exiting. Add to this, that its best vineyard sites due to similarity in their soils are entitled to be called Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru or Corton Charlemagne in case of Chardonnay, and Corton or Le Rognet en Corton if planted with Pinot Noir. In addition, most village wines are marketed as Côte de Beaune-Village, although an increasing amount of wine is marketed under the Ladoix-Serrigny appellation after the finansial crisis. Nevertheless, there are some fine domaines to be found here, not only making Ladoix, but wines from neighboring appellations too.

The Domaine Maratray-Dubreuil has been headed by the same family for three generations. Monsieur Maratray married one of Pierre Dubreuil’s daughters, who brought some Corton-Charlemagne with her, extending the domaine which presently includes 19 hectares owned and en fermage. Today Francois-Xavier and his sister Marie-Madeleine Pouillot run the domaine. According to Anthony Hanson (1995) this is one of those low-profile Côte d’Or domaines, with a range of well-made minor appellations, which gives the lie to those, who say you cannot find fairly-priced wine in Burgundy. However, prices have also increased dramatically here recently. Vins rouges include the Grands Crus Corton Clos du Roi, Les Bressandes and Les Grandes Loliéres, Beaune 1er Cru Les Teurons, Aloxe Corton 1er Cru, Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Les Vergelesses, Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru and Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile des Vergelesses and village from Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix including the two-colored monopole Les Nagets, and Chorey-Les-Beaune Les Bons Ores. Vins blanc include Corton-Charlemagne (from the Pernand-Vergelesses side called En Charlemagne), Savigny-Les-Beaune 1er Cru Les Vergelesses, Ladoix 1er Cru Les Gréchons and Les Nagets (monopole) and Pernand-Vergelesses Les Vignes Blanches. Finally, the domaine also makes Bourgogne Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Aligote.

Special attention is given to production of healthy grapes, while vinefication is traditional, although all the most recent technologies are used. Our selections from this domaine have so far included Pernand-Vergelesses Les Vignes Blanches, Beaune 1er Cru Les Teurons and Corton-Bressandes. Their Corton Clos du Roi was left unexploited, when we last visited the domaine, and we are loking forward to tasting and buying this wine in addition to their Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Les Vergelesses.
